Creating a good first impression is critical for most businesses. It sets the tone of your future relationship with clients and customers. Utilizing every space in your office or shop will thus help attract customers and ensure that your brand is easily remembered.
One overlooked spot for signs in an office space is the floor. Floor graphics are one of the most cost-effective ways to catch your customers’ attention. As we usually look down when we walk, anyone can easily notice these types of graphics. These floor vinyl decals can be applied to almost all kinds of floor surfaces like sealed wood, ceramic tiles, marble, vinyl, and concrete.
One of the questions we often receive from business owners is: Can I use them on my wooden floor?
The answer is definitely, yes. These signs can be applied to most surfaces, and wood is no exception. At Dynamic Sign Solutions, we will make sure that your wooden floor will not be damaged during the application process. Continue reading to learn how to prepare your wooden floor before applying floor graphics.
Steps to Prepare Your Wooden Floor
Check the Wood’s Texture
Because it will be difficult to apply vinyl decals on rough floors, you need to make sure that the wood is smooth to the touch. If your floor is rough, you need to sand it down first until it is smooth enough. To ensure that your floor will be smooth after sanding, you may want to apply a sealant.
Let the Sealant or Paint Cure
If you’ve just painted or sealed your wood floor, give the paint or sealant a few weeks to cure before applying the decal. Doing so will ensure that your floor will have a protective shield from water, moisture, oil, and even UV rays.
Spray and Clean the Floor
Spray a solution of water and mild soap on the floor area where you intend to apply the floor graphics. Next, clean the wood with the proper cleaning supplies. To give yourself room for adjustment when installing the decal, clean a few inches beyond the space where you intend to apply it.
Wipe the Surface
After cleaning the surface, you should use a lint-free paper towel to wipe it down and remove any remaining moisture, dirt, or grit. Make sure any wood dust or residue has been eliminated if the wood was sanded previously.
Conduct a Paint Test
If you have a painted wood floor, do a paint test in a less noticeable area first. This is to see if the decals will lift the paint when repositioned or removed.
Once you are done prepping your floor, you may now install your floor graphics. When the time comes to update your designs or messages, you will see that removing them is as easy as installing them.
